Open Letter to Senate Minority Leader Schumer

Senator,

Although I am not one of your constituents, I am a lifelong Democrat and a retired Sergeant Major of the United States Army. As a citizen and veteran, I am appalled by the conduct of Donald Trump and his Republican enablers and co-conspirators. Frankly, I am also deeply disappointed by the Democratic Party's lack of response. I believe you are aware that our democracy is on the brink of collapse. Donald Trump, along with his financier, Elon Musk, is a traitor to this country.

As an older soldier nearing the end of my life, I am concerned for my children and grandchildren, who will suffer not only due to Donald Trump's actions but also because of the Democrats' inaction. I am committed to doing everything in my power to resist and fight against this tyranny.

Sir, there is no long game here. There is a direct assault aimed at destroying our democracy and our country, literally. As the Senate Minority Leader, I expect you to lead the charge against this "enemy." Make no mistake, the Republican Party today is acting as an ally of Mr. Putin.

I implore you, Senator, indeed I beg you, to stand up and fight back. Be vocal and call out their treason. I would expect that you and the House Minority Leader would hold press conferences daily to highlight their heinous acts against our country. Better yet, follow Senator Sanders' example by deploying Democratic Senators and Representatives across the nation to raise the alarm and inform the American people of what is happening.

As a combat veteran and a member of a family that has served in our country's military since the Revolutionary War, I am acutely aware of the sacrifices made by countless Americans in defense of the Constitution. Perhaps you should remind Americans of the magnitude of these sacrifices. I have witnessed American blood soak foreign soil in defense of our Constitution. Please ensure that these sacrifices have not been in vain.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sergeant Major Larry A. Myers

United States Army Retired.
